Transparent calculation notes for 80C Tax Saver Calculator.
Formula used
The calculator caps eligible Section 80C entries at ₹1.5 lakh and works out the exact old-regime tax saving from your taxable income before these investments.
Methodology
- Add all entered 80C investment and payment amounts.
- Cap the deduction at ₹1,50,000 and at your taxable income.
- Compute old-regime tax on your taxable income and on the income less the deduction: slabs for your age group, the rebate at taxable income up to ₹5 lakh (no marginal relief), surcharge with marginal relief and 4% cess.
- The saving is the difference between the two.
Core assumptions
- Entered amounts are eligible under Section 123 (earlier 80C) read with Schedule XV. The limit is ₹1,50,000 per tax year.
- Taxable income is entered after the standard deduction, HRA exemption and other deductions, before these investments.
- In the new regime the deduction is not allowed, so the saving is ₹0.
Not included
- Proof validation, investment suitability, employer payroll treatment and special-rate income such as capital gains are excluded.
- Actual tax saving depends on final taxable income and filing choices.
About 80C Tax Saver Calculator
Guide1What is Section 80C (Section 123 from Tax Year 2026-27)?
Section 80C lets eligible taxpayers deduct specified investments and payments such as EPF, PPF, ELSS, life insurance premium, home loan principal repayment, tuition fees, and NSC.
From 1 April 2026 the Income-tax Act, 2025 applies. The Section 80C deduction continues as Section 123 read with Schedule XV, with the same ₹1,50,000 limit per tax year, available only in the old regime. Returns for FY 2025-26 still use Section 80C.
280C Tax Saving Formula
The calculator uses:
Deduction = min(total eligible 80C investments, ₹1,50,000, taxable income)
Tax saving = old-regime tax on your taxable income − old-regime tax on that income less the deduction
Both tax figures use the old-regime slabs for your age group, the rebate for taxable income up to ₹5 lakh, surcharge with marginal relief and 4% cess. That is why the saving is not a flat 30%: it can be lower in the lower slabs and higher where the deduction brings your income down to the rebate limit. In the new regime the deduction is not allowed, so the saving is ₹0.
